SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11

Urging the Department of Transportation close State Route 16 into
St. Marys to heavy truck traffic until safety concerns are
addressed.
Whereas, State Route 16 coming into the city of St. Marys is
a very dangerous highway; and
Whereas, There have been numerous accidents caused by
runaway trucks coming into St. Marys; and
Whereas, Citizens of St. Marys have met with highway
officials in an attempt to lessen the potential for accidents on
this highway; and
Whereas, Additional warning signals have been placed at the
top of the steep grade going into St. Marys; and
Whereas, In spite of the effort which has been taken to
lessen the potential for accidents on this highway, there has
been another near-fatal accident at St. Marys High School caused
by another runaway truck; and
Whereas, The potential for a more serious accident at St.
Marys High School exists; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate urges the Department of Transportation to
close State Route 16 coming into St. Marys to heavy truck traffic
until a positive, safe entrance into St. Marys can be completed;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the
Department of Transportation.
